How Your Congressional Member Can Help

In the Appropriations process, House and Senate Appropriations Committee staff will look for respective member requests when developing their budgets.  The best way to ensure level funding for the MEP program in FY14 is to have as many Representatives and Senators submit individual programmatic requests as possible.

To make the process as easy as possible for your local members, ASMC has developed (for you to customize) Member to Member and Senate to Senate letters for you to send to congressional staff to assist them in the process.

  • CJS Programmatic Request Form
  • Member to Member letter
  • Senate to Senate letter

Have Your Senator Sign the Dear Colleague Letter

Centers and client can email your local Senators and their staff requesting the Congressman sign onto the Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) being circulated by Senator Brown (D-OH) and Senator Coons (D-DE) calling for robust, level funding for the MEP program in the FY14 CJS Subcommittee on Appropriations bill. The letter will be sent to Senate CJS Chairman Mikulski (D-MD),and Ranking Member Shelby (R-AL).

  • Final Senate Dear Colleague letter (4.26.13)
  • Listing of Signers (as of 4.25.13)

Have Your Representative Sign the Dear Colleague Letter

Centers and clients can call and email your local Representatives and their staff requesting the Congressman sign onto the Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) being circulated by Congressmen Kelly (R-PA) and McGovern (D-MA) calling for sustained, level funding for the MEP program in the FY14 CJS Appropriations bill. The letter will be sent to House CJS Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Frank Wolf (R-VA) and Ranking Member Chaka Fattah (D-PA).

  • Final House Dear Colleague letter (with signatures)
  • Listing of Signers

Congressional Testimony

Representative Gary C. Peters | Michigan’s 14th District
House Commerce, Justice, State Appropriations Subcommittee – March 21, 2013

I support full funding for the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Hollings Manufacturing Extension Program (MEP), within the Department of Commerce. In addition, the non-federal cost share ratio for MEP should be reduced from 66% to 50% to standardize the cost share requirement with other similar Department of Commerce programs. Read More…

Representative John D. Dingell | Michigan’s 12th District
House Commerce, Justice, State Appropriations Subcommittee – March 21, 2013

Thank you, Chairman Wolf and Ranking Member Fattah, for allowing me to submit testimony in support of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  I am deeply grateful for your ongoing support of this country’s manufacturing base and the millions of jobs it supports.  I hope your support of MEP will continue as the Committee on Appropriations begins its consideration of funding legislation for the program in fiscal year 2014. Read More…

Congressional Support

Senator Robert P. Casey Jr. | Pennsylvania

As the Office of Management and Budget prepares for the President’s budget request for the 2014 fiscal year, I urge robust support for the manufacturing sector. Specifically, I believe investments should be focused on education and workforce development, expanding smart incentives, enhancing export promotion, and providing direct support for the sector.  Read More…
